We’re both free TV services, but Freesat is different because we’re broadcast via satellite.
This gives us brilliant reception across the whole of the UK, and capacity for many more channels than Freeview.
We have lots of top TV and Radio channels, including many of the Freeview favourites and 17 HD channels.
What channels are different between Freeview and Freesat?
Currently, Freeview provides access to four free HD channels (BBC One HD, BBC HD, Channel 4 HD and ITV1 HD), Freesat has five, and Freesat from Sky has six. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are equivalent in quality.
What channels are available on Freesat?
Alongside the five main TV channels – BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 – Freesat customers can access channels such as:
- Entertainment: BBC Three, BBC Four, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, E4, More4, 5 USA, 5 +1.
- News: BBC News, BBC Parliament, Sky News, Russia Today (RT), Al Jazeera.
- Films: Film4, True Movies.
Which is best Freeview or Freesat?
You get access to all the features of Freeview Play, with a few extra services and channels on top and the option to expand with premium, on-demand services. The hardware is slightly cheaper too. Freesat is a good choice if you have an existing satellite dish or live in an area with poor Freeview reception.

Can I use my old Sky dish for Freesat?
You Can Use An Old Sky Box For Freesat? If you don’t want to purchase a new Freesat box you could use an old Sky box to connect your satellite dish to your TV for free satellite services. If you cancel your Sky subscription or remove your viewing card you will see what services remain. These are the free TV services.
Can you watch Freesat on a Freeview TV?
Yes – you can connect a Freesat box to a digital TV that has built-in Freeview (via SCART, or if HD, via HDMI).
Can I still use sky box without subscription?
Free to air satellite TV with a Sky box
A large number of digital TV channels can be viewed on a Sky Digibox without a Sky subscription or a viewing card, as the signal is not encrypted – see Sky’s Free to Air channel list.
What channels will I get if I cancel sky?
When you cancel your subscription your Sky+ box will still work and using your now deactivated viewing card you will still be able to receive a handful of unencrypted free-to-view (FTV) channels, including BBC1, 2, ITV1, C4 and C5.
How much does Freesat cost?
There’s no monthly subscription – all you need is a satellite dish and a Freesat box on your telly (£50-£220). Once you’ve bought those and paid for installation, that’s all you’ll ever need to pay to get your extra channels.
Why can’t I get all Freesat channels?
Missing channels. If you encounter channels missing from your TV guide, put your Freesat box or Freesat TV into standby for 30 seconds and then switch it back on again. This should see everything restored; If this does not work you’ll need to do a quick ‘Freesat channel scan’.
Can I get Alibi channel on Freesat?
If you’re a Sky, Virgin Media, BT TV or TalkTalk TV customer, shows from other great UKTV channels – Gold, W, Alibi, Good Food, Home and Eden – are also on the menu.
Why can’t I get 4music on Freesat?
At the end of January, The Box Plus Network withdrew its presence from Freesat, causing viewers to lose access to channels including 4Music. 4Music’s departure comes only a year after its high-profile arrival on the platform. Can I use existing satellite dish for free TV?
A: Unfortunately, no. The satellite dish is not the correct shape, and has special electronics that make it not usable for receiving free broadcast TV. However, you can still use the coax cabling from the dish to your TV if you want to install a broadcast TV antenna where your dish was.
Can I use my old satellite dish as an antenna?
If you have a satellite dish mounted to the roof or the side of your house, it is able to be used as an external television antenna. This will allow you to receive digital broadcast television signals that are available in your area. Place the antenna on the back of the dish.
