Is NBN installation free?
A standard installation of NBN equipment is currently free of charge. Remember to ask your preferred provider if they have any other fees.
What does NBN installation involve?
If the outside of your property hasn’t been connected to the nbn™ network yet, the free standard installation* will include connecting a fibre optic cable from your street to the nbn™ utility box installed on the outside of your home or business (also known as a premises connection device).
Do I need an NBN compatible phone?
If you have HFC nbn service, you plug your home phone directly into the green port on your Telstra modem. If you don’t need a copper phone line, you can switch your phone to the nbn network. If you do switch to the nbn network, you’ll need a connection box inside your home.
Is there a cost to connect to NBN?
We do not have any standard connection fees for our nbn™ services. Possible set up charges are if you require a new nbn™ compatible broadband router, in a new housing development or opt to have a new line connected. You can view our router options on our hardware page.
Do I have to pay to get NBN installed?
The National Broadband Network will be installed at your home free of charge. However, you will have to pay for an NBN plan to cover your monthly usage.
Where do they install NBN box?
The nbn™ Connection box should ideally be installed:
In a cool dry, ventilated area (e.g. not a cupboard or in a bathroom or kitchen). Away from busy areas where it may be knocked and damaged. Near your existing phone or network cabling.
How long does NBN take to install?
It can take up to 48 hours after the nbn™ Technician has completed the installation for the service to be completed & ready to use.
What is needed to set up NBN?
What you’ll need
- An active NBN™ Fibre (FTTP) broadband service.
- A WiFi router or a fibre-ready modem router.
- The power supply cable that came with your router.
- An Ethernet cable (at least one is typically included with a router, usually a Cat 5e).
How do they install NBN in your house?
Under a standard installation, the NBN connection box will typically go inside your home near an existing telephone jack and within reach of a power point. The connection box must plug straight into the wall socket, not into a power board or double adaptor.
Will old phones work on NBN?
If you have an existing analogue phone, in most cases it should continue to work on NBN Fibre connections by just plugging it in to the voice port (marked UNI-V) on the modem or NTD box. If you are connected via FTTN, FTTB, or HFC your phone service will not work in the event of a power failure.
Can I get NBN without a phone line?
No, as you do not need an active phone line to get an internet service on the nbn™, you do not have to pay any line rental.
Is it compulsory to switch to NBN?
To continue having a fixed home phone and broadband service, you’ll need to switch to phone and broadband services on the nbn network. In most cases, you have 18 months to switch, from the date when nbn co declares your area is ‘ready for service’.
